Who I am

A psychologist who wants you to understand the process.

I am Max Verstappen, a psychologist with a master’s-level education in psychology. My experience includes supporting adults with panic, anxiety, avoidance and trauma-related difficulties.

Good psychological support should not feel mysterious. I aim to create a calm and collaborative setting in which we can understand what is happening, decide what you would like to change and work towards focused goals together.

How I work

Careful, transparent and collaborative.

We begin by clarifying what you are experiencing, what may be maintaining it and what you would like to change. From there, we agree on a focused way of working.

I

Understand the pattern

We map the situations, thoughts, emotions, physical responses and behaviours that matter in your daily life.

II

Choose an approach

Methods are selected for your situation and explained in plain language, so you know why we are using them.

III

Evaluate together

We regularly discuss whether the work remains useful and adjust the focus when that is needed.

A guiding principle for psychological work

Methods and focus

Evidence-informed work, selected with care.

Depending on the assessment and your goals, the work may draw on cognitive behavioural methods, EMDR and Narrative Exposure Therapy.

Areas of experience

What I commonly support

  • Panic attacks and fear of physical sensations
  • Persistent worry and social anxiety
  • Avoidance that is increasingly limiting daily life
  • Distressing memories and trauma-related responses
What you can expect

A clear professional process

  • A careful initial exploration of your difficulties and goals
  • Transparent explanations of the proposed approach
  • Goals agreed together
  • Regular evaluation of progress and suitability
Finding the right fit

A first conversation also considers suitability.

This practice does not provide emergency or crisis care. Psychological support begins only after we have discussed your needs and agreed that this practice is an appropriate setting. If another form of care appears more suitable, I will explain that honestly and help you consider an appropriate next step.

Ask whether this may be a suitable next step

Would you like to explore whether working together could fit?

You are welcome to send a brief question or ask about an initial consultation.
